Step 1

We are using Wefunder’s crowdfunding platform to raise money in this fundraising round.

Click on the image below to launch the Wefunder site on a separate tab in your browser.

Step 2

On the Wefunder page that was launched on the new tab of your browser, input the amount you wish to invest in the “INVEST” box, and then click the “INVEST” button.

Step 3

In the next window, if you don’t currently have a Wefunder account, select the “SIGNUP” tab and enter your name, email address and the password you want to use and then click the “SIGN UP” button.

If you already have a Wefunder account, select the “LOGIN” tab and enter your username and password, then click the “LOGIN” button. This will log you into the Wefunder website.

Step 4

Once you’re successfully logged into your Wefunder account, you will see the “Welcome to Wefunder” page.

At this point your investment is “Reserved”, meaning you are guaranteed an opportunity to invest in the startup.

  • The next step is to “Fund” your investment.

From here you have 2 options; you can log out of your account with just an investment reservation, or you can continue and fund your investment.

  • You aren’t officially invested in the startup until you fund your investment.
  • If you fund your investment now, Wefunder will waive any fees it charges in order to cover its operational costs.

To continue with funding your investment, skip down to the next step below.

If you only want to reserve your investment, simply log out of your Wefunder account by hovering over the emoji in the upper right corner and selecting “Logout”.

Wefunder will contact you via email once the round closes to give you a final opportunity to fund your investment.

At that point, you will be able to use any of the following 4 methods to fund your investment:

  • Standard bank transfer
  • Wire transfer
  • Credit Card
  • Check by mail

Step 5

If you wish to fund your investment now, you can either perform a standard money transfer by clicking “Add a Bank Account”, or wiring the funds by clicking “Send Wire Transfer”.

Wefunder uses “Plaid” for standard money transfers.

  • Plaid only supports transfers from US based financial institutions.
  • If you are transferring funds from a foreign financial institution, you must use a wire transfer.
  • If you’re performing a standard transfer using Plaid, proceed to the “Standard Bank Transfer” section below.

Wire transfers usually have higher fees, but you can transfer funds from foreign entities using this method.

  • If you’re using a wire transfer, skip down to the “Wire Transfer” section below.

Standard Bank Transfer

Step 1

If you chose to “Add A Bank Account”, the next dialog you will see is the Plaid splash screen notifying you that Wefunder uses their service for transferring money.

Click the “Continue” button to proceed.

Step 2

In the next window, you will be presented with the Plaid search dialog where you can search for your financial institution by typing its name in the “Search” box as seen in the image below.

Once your bank is located, click on its name in the list.

If you can’t find your bank in the list, it’s not supported by Plaid.

  • In this case, you will have to perform a wire transfer instead.

Click on the “X” in the upper right corner of the window to return to the previous dialog where you can choose a wire transfer.

  • For wire transfer instructions, skip down to the “Wire Transfer” section below.

Step 3

In the next window, click the “I’m not a robot” box.

This will take you to the login dialog.

Step 4

In next window, enter your username and password to log into your online banking account, and click the “Submit” button.

Step 5

In next window, you are presented with yet another CAPTCHA dialog.

Click the “I’m not a robot” box to ensure them you’re human!

Step 6

As part of the login process with your bank, they will want to verify your identity.

This process entails sending you a security code.

In the dialog, you must choose how you want to receive the code, and then click the “Continue” button.

Step 7

Next, you will be presented with a dialog to enter the code.

Once you enter the code, click the “Submit” button.

Step 8

In the next dialog, you are asked to choose which bank account to withdraw funds from.

Click the “Continue” button once you’ve made your choice.

Step 9

Next, you will be presented with the Wefunder page listing the “Transfer Amount”, please ensure this is correct.

Wefunder typically charges a small fee for each startup investment, but they wave the fee for early investors.

You will also be asked for your “Personal Information”, this should match what’s on your bank account.

Once the transfer amount and personal information are entered, the “Transfer Funds to Wefunder Cash” button will become enabled.

Click the button to finalize your transaction.

Once your funds are transferred, they are held in escrow until the crowdfunding round is completed.

If a startup meets its minimum raise during a crowdfunding round, the monies held in escrow will be transferred to the startup’s bank account.

If it fails to meet its minimum raise, the monies are returned to each investor.

Step 10

Once the transaction is completed, you will see the confirmation page.

On this page, you can enter your reason for investing in the startup by clicking the “Edit Message” link at the bottom of the page.

Step 11

Lastly, you can monitor the status of your investments using your Wefunder “Cash” page.

Simply log into your Wefunder account at Wefunder.com.

Hover over the emoji in the upper right corner of your browser window, and select “Cash” from the drop-down menu.

On the page that opens, you can monitor the status of all of your transfers as indicated by the red arrow – it may take a couple days for them to complete, so be patient.

When you are satisfied with your transfers, log out of your Wefunder account by mousing over the emoji in the upper right corner of your browser window and selecting “Logout” from the menu.

Step 1

Once you have chosen to use a wire transfer to fund your investment, you will be presented with the Wefunder page listing your investment amount and personal information.

Verify that the investment amount and personal information are correct, and then click the “Transfer Funds to Wefunder Cash” button.

Step 2

Next, you’ll see the Wefunder confirmation page.

On this page, you can input and send a message to the founder by clicking the “SEND MESSAGE” button.

When finished with your message, click the “Cash Account management page” link at the bottom of the page.

Step 3

Your Wefunder “Cash” page will open.

In the right sidebar, you can click the “MAKE WIRE TRANSFER” button to proceed to the next step in the wire transfer process.

**Note: Wefunder does accept wire transfers from foreign financial institutions.

Step 4

In the next window, ensure “Wire Transfer” is selected from the drop-down menu under “FROM”, and “Wefunder Cash” is selected from the drop-down menu under “TO”.

Enter the amount you wish to transfer, and click the “TRANSFER” button.

Step 5

The next window will contain all the information required to perform a wire transfer.

At this point, you have 2 options:

  1. Take the wire transfer information to your bank and ask them to perform the wire transfer for you.
  2. Or, you can initiate the wire transfer yourself through your online banking account.

If you do not use online banking or don’t feel confident about performing the wire transfer yourself, option 1 is your best choice.

  • Make a copy of the wire transfer information before clicking “OK” to close the window.
      • The easiest method is to take a picture of the information using your smartphone.
  • Then log out of your Wefunder account and visit your bank.

If you want to initiate the wire transfer through your online banking account, most online banking institutions include this process in the same area as performing regular account transfers.

The steps are slightly different for each bank, or we would outline them here.

We recommend keeping the Wefunder page with the wire transfer information open while you login and setup your online banking account for the wire transfer, that way all the information you will need is readily available.

**Note: the 10-digit alphanumeric “Reference” code in the wire transfer information is used by Wefunder to indicate which Wefunder investor account made the transfer.

**Note: if you’re using a financial institution not based in the US and are having issues with your wire transfer, Wefunder recommends using Wise.com to execute the wire transfer.

  • Just click on the link, Wise.com, to open their website in your browser, create your user account and follow their instructions.

When you have completed your wire transfer, click the “OK” button as displayed below.

Step 6

Next, you will be returned to your Wefunder Cash page.

From here, you can monitor the status of your wire transfer as indicated by the red arrow – it may take several days to complete, so be patient.

When you are satisfied with your transfers, log out of your Wefunder account by mousing over the emoji in the upper right corner of your browser window and selecting “Logout” from the menu.

Step 7

If you elected to visit your bank and have them initiate the wire transfer for you, then you can monitor the status of the wire transfer by:

  • Logging into your Wefunder account
  • Hovering your mouse pointer over the emoji in the upper right corner of the window
  • And selecting “Cash” from the menu.

Step 8

This will open your Wefunder Cash page.

The wire transfer should appear on this page as well as its status.

Unfortunately, at this time Wefunder does not permit funding of your Wefunder Cash with a credit card – only standard bank transfers and wire transfers are accepted.

  • This means if you want to use a credit card to fund your investment, you will have to pay a small fee for your investment.

To use a credit card to fund your investment, whether you’re a foreign or domestic investor:

  • You must first reserve your investment by following steps 1 thru 4 above under “We’ve Got You Covered”.
  • Then wait for the startup’s fundraising round to close, at which time Wefunder will contact you via email and provide you a final opportunity to fund your investment reservation.
  • At that time, you can use any of the 4 options for funding your investment:
    • Standard bank transfer
    • Wire transfer
    • Credit Card
    • Mail in a check
  • Wefunder cautions foreign investors that they may have to contact their credit card holder if their first attempt to fund their investment fails as the credit card company may flag the payment as suspicious.
  • As seen in the image below, the investor can add either a bank account or credit card to their Wefunder Banks & Cards page.
  • Having this information on file will help to speed up the process once the startup closes its fundraising round.
